OPENING BANQUET PRESENTATION

Canceled – A Story You Will Never Forget,” as told by Julius, a Centurion, featuring Rev. Jim Likens as Julius, will highlight the Friday evening, May 22 opening banquet. The story of Julius will take participants “from the foot of the cross to the dungeons of Rome in an extraordinary experience they will never forget.”

PLENARY SESSION TOPICS

Jesus and Muslims

Islam is the second-largest religion in the world, behind Christianity, with over one billion adherents. Muslims in the Unites States are more educated and affluent than the national average, with 59% of them holding at least an undergraduate college degree, according to a 2004 survey by the polling organization Zogby.

Jesus and Jews

The United States is home to the largest or second largest Jewish community in the world, depending on religious definitions and varying population data. Nearly 360,000 college students in the United States are Jewish, according to a 2000-2001 National Jewish Population Survey.

The Deaf Hear

About 11 million persons over five years old in the United States report that they are deaf or hard of hearing, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Blind Receive Sight

There are approximately 10 million blind and visually impaired people in the United States, according to the American Federation for the Blind.

BREAKOUT SESSION TOPICS

Stepping Outside the Box

It’s one thing to think outside the box. It’s quite another to implement outside-the-box thinking.

Cross Training

Christians can be trained to share their faith – they can also be taught to train other Christians do the same.

Funding the Mission

Campus ministries must become more and more self-supporting, and they need to do so with proactive, positive, multi-faceted strategies.

How to Set Up a Mission Trip

Mission trips don’t just happen – they require a lot of planning and preparation.

BIBLE STUDY LEADER

Rev. Scott Snow, director of outreach for LCMS World Mission, will lead two Bible studies based on the Confabulation theme “Always Be Prepared.” Rev. Snow will also serve as the master of ceremonies throughout Confabulation.


A TIME TO CONFABULATE

“To confabulate” means “to discuss something.” Participants will have three opportunities to discuss what they learn at Confabulation and how they may implement it when they return to their respective campus ministries.


CONCERT

Lost and Found

Michael Bridges plays guitar and George Baum plays piano, and they will perform a concert on Sunday evening, May 24 and serve as the house band throughout Confabulation.

SOCIAL OUTING

Participants will enjoy a Saturday evening, May 23 outing at Demolition Ball – Adrenaline Zone in nearby St. Charles.

Demolition Ball is what you get when you put hockey, football, polo, and basketball in bumper cars. Adrenaline Zone is what you get when you take the traditional game of Laser Tag and give it to the people behind Demolition Ball.


SERVANT EVENT

An optional servant event will be held on Friday morning and afternoon, May 22 prior to the opening banquet.

College students and other 2009 Confabulation participants will have the opportunity to volunteer with the Acts 1:8 Mission Society.

A nominal $25 fee to cover the cost of transportation and lunch will apply for participants who choose to take part in the servant event.

REGISTRATION AND FEES

Early Bird registration fees have been extended through APRIL 29! Registration and full payment to be received no later than 11:59 p.m., WEDNESDAY, April 29, 2009:
• College students – $145
• All others – $195

A nominal $25 fee to cover the cost of transportation and lunch will also apply for participants who choose to take part in the servant event.

CANCELATION POLICY

Cancelations are subject to a $50 per person fee. However, the full registration fee is transferable to a new registrant through April 20, 2009. After April 20, the full registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferrable. To transfer or cancel your registration, call Stacey Swan, Confabulation registrar, at (402) 301-4840.


LODGING

Nightly rates at the Crowne Plaza St. Louis Airport Hotel, site of the 2009 Confabulation, are:
• $67 for one or two person(s) in a room
• $73 for three or four persons in a room
